A security firm in Japan has invented a camera that can recognise a person’s face, age and gender. The camera made by Omron – a world leader in face recognition technology – appeared at the Tokyo Security Show. It takes the clever piece of kit just seconds to identify a person’s age and gender by comparing their face with millions of mug shots stored in its database. The camera’s 3D model fitting technology can even detect information from a blurred photo. Unfortunately the camera’s database only contains photos of Asian faces, so at present it cannot correctly identify other ethnic groups.
